MY STORY
A Family Tradition
I grew up in Wales, land of mountains, sheep, sideways rain, and where we learned the national anthem before we could write our own name.
Some of my earliest childhood memories are in the kitchen with my mum, making Welsh cakes on the old bakestone passed down from my dad’s mother. It weighed a ton, but I always wanted to grab it from the cupboard under the stairs, it made the best cakes!
I’d help mum roll out and cut the dough while the bakestone warmed up on the gas hob of our old oven. Before long, the house would smell like sugar & spice, and we'd have a small stack of Welsh Cakes ready to munch on.
That’s where the spark for Dragonstone Bakes began. With family, with tradition, and with the love of my home country, Wales.

A New Adventure
Moving to Australia was incredibly overwhelming at first, and I miss a lot about Wales: the misty mountains, the rugged coastline, and being able to pronounce place names without sounding like I’m summoning a demon!
But here in Australia I’ve found new love, a new family, markets full of character, and people who are always up for a chat; even if they do think a Welsh cake is a biscuit, or just a scone in disguise...
Through Dragonstone Bakes, I want to bring a slice of my home to this side of the world. Something comforting, handmade, and a little bit magical. Whether you’re Welsh, Aussie, or just hungry, there’s a warm cake and a warm welcome waiting for you at Dragonstone Bakes.

The future Awaits!
Right now, you’ll find me flipping Welsh cakes at local markets, sharing a little taste of home one cake at a time. I also now sell online, so you can get your hands on some proper Welsh comfort food without even leaving the sofa!
But this is just the beginning. I’d love to see Welsh cakes popping up in cafés and coffee shops across South Australia. Not just as a novelty, but as an everyday treat. Because let’s face it: life is better with Welsh Cakes, and it shouldn’t cost the earth to feel a bit of joy.
Diolch yn fawr, thank you for stopping by and being part of this sweet little journey. Allow me to bake for you sometime; whether you find me at a market or order online, the adventure’s just getting started and I'd love you to come along for the ride.
"Diolch yn fawr. Your support means the world to me and I can't wait for you to taste a little bit of Wales in my cakes." - Tom
